Sometimes after we hit the send button, we might regret because of sending to wrong person etc.
Here is a trick on how to add delay to sent messages, which means, when we have hit send button, it will be put to send out folder and wait some time then send it.
(If you want to know how to literally retrieve email you have already sent to receiver (means it’s not in the send out box) continue with this guide: How to: Retrieve sent email in Microsoft Outlook program/software)
Here is how
1 Launch Microsoft Outlook program from desktop
2 Click on “File” button from menu bar
3 Click on “Rules and Alerts” button
4 “Rules and Alerts” Window will appear, Click on “New Rule…” button
5 “Rules Wizard” will appear, look at “Start from a blank rule” section, click on “Apply rules on messages I send”, click on “Next >” button
6 Click on “Next >” button again (Unless you do not want to apply the delay to all sent email), a warning window will popup “Microsoft Outlook” “This rule will be applied to every message you send, Is this correct?”, click on “Yes” button to continue
7 Check “defer delivery by a number of minutes” in Step 1
8 Click “a number of” in Step 2, and set a desired delay time for sending email after the “Send” button is clicked, in other words, “Regret time”, Give it a name if you want to, Check “Turn on this rule”, click on “Finish” button
Note: Do not Check “Run this rule now on messages already in “Inbox””
9 Click on “Finish” button
10 A warning message will appear saying, “Microsoft Outlook”, “This rule will only run when you check your email in Outlook. If Outlook isn’t running, this rule won’t work for email you check online or from another device”
Basically saying, the rule we have created will only work in this Outlook, not anywhere else.
11 Rule created, click on “OK” button to finish it
12 Now, when we hit “Send” button, the email will actually sit in the “Outbox” for 2 minutes or the time you have specified, then actually send it out after that time.
